Presentation by Jane Taka Worrall from the Centre
for Alternative
Technology
The Wilderness Toilet Challenge - environmental solutions to the
problems
of waste disposal.
The Centre for Alternative Technology has been researching and
developing
sustainable environmental solutions for our energy uses and waste
disposal
over the last thirty years and has become internationally renowned as an
information and consultancy resource, as well as a visitor attraction
receiving some 70,000 visitors a year. One area of expertise
particularly
well represented at CAT is human waste management. In this capacity it
has
been engaged in various projects in places as far afield as the
Himalayas,
Mount Fuji and Scotland providing sustainable and workable solutions to
the
mounting problem of 'deposits' left by adventurers in the world's
environmentally sensitive areas.
